Our Story

Peace, Love and Plants founder Sarah started out selling house plants on a market stall, outside Burke and Son on Chatterton Road, Bromley

Things soon changed shape when the garden centres closed during the first lockdown in 2020! A webshop went up overnight to sell compost and plants - business moved quickly and founder Sarah did all the deliveries in her Toyota Aygo with her two children….it was a busy summer.

As retail habits returned to normal demand for local supply fell, the panic buying of plants was over. This didn’t summon a death knell for the business as Sarah found herself in high demand, helping people set up their gardens. She dusted off her RHS certificates and began work in Kent, SE London and Surrey designing, supplying materials and setting up everything from prairie plantings to veg patches. Her reuse and repurpose approach to landscaping was an instant hit with clients. Within a few months she was asked to garden and help manage land on a private estate in Surrey where her truly organic philosophy aligned with the owner’s naturalistic, no chemical methods.

Sarah quickly realised there were very few options to supply peat free plants. Most were imported from abroad, having been raised in glasshouses with plenty of undesirable chemical intervention. She made sure that all of the perennials, grasses and ferns came from UK nurseries who only grow in peat free media.

She studied at Capel Manor and Coolings, the RHS curriculum providing a sound base of knowledge for her to divert into 100 percent organic practises. Her love for pollinators emanates through the design process, she is on a mission to get thousands of gardens buzzing throughout the year.

The horticultural industry is fraught with toxic problems, it will take some time to remedy: top-down practises must be held to account and make appropriate changes. Consumers and professionals alike can vote on their feet by making conscientious choices when gardening. If Paris and Toronto can be no spray zones, every city, town and village in the UK can follow suit with ease.

At Peace, Love and Plants the aim is to educate as many garden and land owners possible about the importance of natural methods, permaculture soil and plant management. You only have to watch the Netflix hit ‘Kiss the Ground’ to understand how quickly things can change for the better if land is left to wild…..

Founder Sarah loves her microgreens

They’re as good in salads as they are on the compost heap

There is a big demand for low maintenance gardens away from lawns and shrubs, homeowners are now looking for more dramatic plantings akin to those adorning Pinterest boards.

Peace, Love and Plants in Sarah’s vision is a project gardening company where ethics and sustainability are symbiotic with aesthetics. The love for setting up and managing beautiful patches of land that work in harmony with nature is at the heart of the business.

Not surprisingly, her services are very much in demand….
